In Syria the dialog of the deaf between the Assad government and the opposition continues, as it has from the beginning of the civil war, 19 months and 33,000 deaths later.
SNC leader Abdel Basset Sayda has received favorably the proposal put forth by the UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi for a cease fire, on the condition that Assad’s troops begin it. ”
We will welcome every proposal to end the killing, but we believe that the appeal must first be made to the Syrian regime which has never ceased to bomb the cities and villages of Syria,” Saida said. Brahimi has proposed a four day truce for the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) which begin October 25th. The Damascus government, in its turn, has welcomed the proposal on the condition that the truce involves not only the opposition forces, but also those countries which support them.
