UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon has called for an independent inquiry into the violence inflicted on anti-government protesters in Syria, specifically the use of tanks on unarmed Syrians that have left hundreds dead or wounded.
UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon said:
“I condemn utterly the continuing violence against peaceful demonstrators, most particularly the use of tanks and live fire that have killed and injured hundreds of people there should be an independent, transparent and effective investigation.”
In the southern town of Deraa, where the revolt against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad began on March 18, tanks opened fire on demonstrators to crush resistance.
In the Damascus suburb of Douma witnesses say hundreds of soldiers, believed to be Republican Guards, have been deployed to confront marchers. Euronews
