Iranian NASR TV station reported on Sunday the death in Syria of a senior military commander who is the top aide of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Brigade of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards .
The station said Brigadier General Morteza Ataee, Supreme Commander of the Afghanistan brigade “Fatimiyoun” has been fighting in Syria alongside the forces loyal to Syrian president Bashar al Assad.
Afghanistan brigade “Fatimiyoun” is one of the largest military brigades fighting alongside Assad’s forces against the opposition in Syria. Iran created the brigades using Shiite Afghani refugees, but the leadership is all Iranian and are appointed by Gen. Soleimani.
