International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has launched an annual scholarship for young women from Lebanon to pursue studies at the United World College Dilijan in Armenia, the Huffington Post reported earlier this week.

The Amal Clooney Scholarship will fund one student every year to enroll in a two-year international baccalaureate program.

“This scholarship will give young women from Lebanon the opportunity of a lifetime,” Clooney said in a statement.

Clooney established the scholarship with 100 Lives – a new global organization that works to support humanitarian projects around the world.

“Cross-cultural learning and studying abroad can be transformative. I am grateful to 100 Lives for helping to open doors for these bright and talented young women.” Clooney said.

Co-founder of 100 Lives and UWC Dilijan, Ruben Vardanyan said in a statement “as a leading human rights barrister and campaigner, Amal Clooney is an inspirational role model for young women around the world. She exemplifies integrity, compassion and dedication – and typifies what it means to be a global citizen across all cultures.”

The candidate will be selected on her academic performance and desire to promotion human rights and international issues.

The first recipient of the scholarship, Pamela Tebchrany, recently graduated top of her class and plans to study human rights and women’s equality, the report said.
