Sami Sheaib, the former director general of the Interior Ministry, died Wednesday at the age of 79.
Sheaib was appointed as an acting director general of the Interior Ministry in 1987, three years before assuming the post officially.
Sheaib was born in Sidon in 1931. In 1954, he was appointed as an administrative official in the Governorate of South Lebanon.
Sidon MP Bahia Hariri issued a statement in which she praised Sheaib’s record as a devoted public servant, calling him an example of responsible, ethical behavior.
The statement labeled Sheaib’s death as a loss for Sidon and Lebanon, calling him “one of the greatest symbols of national morality in the public administration, which he illustrated during his long period in serving his country and district.”
Sheaib will be laid to rest Thursday in Sidon. DS
