During a press conference at the parliament , Lebanon Speaker Nabih Berri said Wednesday that formation of a national committee for abolishing political sectarianism “does not mean abolishing sectarianism itself.”
“Abolishment of confessionalism is a fundamental national objective,” Berri said
“I called for the formation of the committee on the abolishment of sectarianism because the Speaker is the authority that implements the constitution inside parliament,” he said.
Earlier today Berri met president Michel Suleiman at Baabda palace and left without making any comments to the press
During an interview with NBN TV MP Fadi al-Aawar said he supports Speaker Nabih Berri’s proposal, since eliminating political sectarianism is essential.
