The current caretaker government was declared a failure because of the obstructing third vote ( veto power) given to the Hezbollah led opposition following the Doha accord .

“I do not intervene in nominations for the speaker, since only the MPs can decide this issue and they will choose the best candidate,” Sfeir argued.

Regarding Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri’s possible nomination for the position of prime minister, Sfeir said he will support whoever MPs support for the position. “Hariri is known for his moderation and for best serving his country,” he said.

Sfeir said that Lebanon is incapable of handling the naturalization of the Palestinians due to its small size.

Sfeir thanked Sunday all those who understood his stances regarding the elections and had expressed their sympathy and denounced all that was thrown at him by individuals harboring well-known intentions.

In his Sunday sermon from Bkirki Sfeir prayed to God to guide the Lebanese to all that is good for their country.

Following the mass on Sunday the patriarch received the mother of slain Lebanese army captain Samer Hanna who urged him to pursue the issue of the killing of her son . Hanna was killed by Hezbollah last year when his helicopter flew over an area in south Lebanon. Hezbollah handed over Mustafa Hassan Muqdim to the military as the person responsible for his murder, but after questioning him the court found out he was not the real killer and decided to release him on bail last week.

According to MP Boutros Harb the military court was not convinced Muqdim was the man who shot at pilot Samer Hanna and called on Hezbollah to reveal the identity of the real killer. The initial investigation revealed that there were 3 other Hezbollah members involved in the assassination of Hanna but Hezbollah refused so far to hand over the 3 other killers.
