Zain told LBC TV prior to announcing the election session that the only candidate for speaker is current Speaker Nabih Berri, however, the candidacy is open to anyone until the day of the session.

The speaker of the parliament has to be a Muslim Shiite , while the Premier should be Muslim Sunni and the president of the republic should be a Christian Maronite

Berri , head of the Amal Movement is closely allied with the Hezbollah led opposition . In addition to the opposition he is being supported by Jumblatt's PSP and Hariri's al Mustaqbal movement . The Christian MPs of March 14 allaince may cast a while ballot because of their experience with Berri in the period from 2006 - 2008 . they accused him of hijacking the parliament
