Zeineddine was stabbed several times with knives by Hezbollah led March 8 supporters as he was returning from the downtown rally marking the 4th anniversary of the assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri. His son, Shadi Zeineddine was taken to Hotel Dieu Hospital for treatment following his injury in the attacks and remains in critical condition.

The attackers hurled stones at the participants and used sticks , knives and in some cases firearms. A number of cars were also attacked, resulting in injuries for a number of people according to NNA.

Jumblatt told the mourners in Chbaniye: The army has done its duty , as arrests were made against those suspected of attacking the March 14 supporters, and we are awaiting justice . Jumblatt urged calm

“Here we stand above all wounds… and [our] path is long,” Jumblatt said. “[But] Bkirki is with us, and all the national figures are with us [too],” he assured.

Jumblatt also told the mourners that he had called Lebanese Army Commander Jean Kahwaji, who "assured him that he will handle the matter and take appropriate measures against the perpetrators "

Jumblatt concluded : "Only the state, the army, the security services and the justice system will protect us,"
