The dialogue session, which was headed by President Michel Suleiman, at the presidential palace, was adjourned until January 22.

A statement issued after the session called to abide with state norms in serving the higher interest of Lebanon, and called for political solidarity with Gaza, warning against dangers that could emerge due to regional circumstances.

The statement also called for resuming discussions on a defense strategy, and working to find common grounds among various groups.

On Monday morning, the session was opened here by president Suleiman, who presented a briefing on the latest developments in the country, which was followed by a 10-page proposal on the defense strategy presented by Lebanese Forces party (LF) Chief Samir Geagea.

However, the weapons of the Shiite group Hezbollah are the main targets of the national defense strategy.

Earlier Monday, Press reports said that Geagea's proposal is very much similar to the Swiss model relying on state controlled popular resistance.

Several proposals were released earlier, mainly that of Christian opposition leader Michel Aoun, who submitted a blueprint during the last dialogue session in November, calling for a defense strategy based on popular resistance. But, Aoun's model was shot down and described by his opponents as chaotic.

Early on Sunday, The ruling majority, March 14 leaders issued a statement calling to adopt a national defense strategy based on UN resolution 1701.

"The national dialogue headed by the president should quickly move in adopting a defense strategy based on UNSCR 1701," March 14 Forces General-Secretariat statement said.

The UN resolution brought an end of hostility in 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel and demanded that Hezbollah should be disarmed.
