The spiritual leaders of the Sunni, Shiite and Druze sects made the call in a joint statement that tackled the grave situation in Gaza resulting from the Israeli aggression.

Grand Mufti Mohammed Rashid Qabbani ( pictured L) , Chairman of the Higher Shiite Council Abdul Amir Qabalan ( C) and Druze spiritual leader Sheikh el Aql Naim Hassan ( R) also criticized the "humanitarian catastrophe inflicted on our people in Gaza."

The statement criticized Arab reaction to the Gaza massacre for being restricted to "denunciation and rhetoric that cannot deter the aggression."

The spiritual leaders urged Palestinian factions to "unify ranks" in reference to the bloody dispute between Hamas and Fatah.

They urged the U.N. Security Council to "pressure Israel into halting its aggression on Gaza; assigning international forces to protect the Palestinian People against further aggressions and immediate lifting of the ban imposed on Gaza."

The spiritual leaders urged followers to organize a fund raising campaigns to help Gaza citizens cope with the ordeal.
