Gemayel was Lebanon's second-youngest MP, he was a rising star in his party . He was a vocal critic of Syria's military presence in and political domination of Lebanon, and an active member of the anti-Syrian parliamentary majority, the March 14 Alliance.
Gemayel was the third member of his family to be assassinated in 25 years. His uncle Bashir Gemayel was assassinated in 1982, also at age 34, and Bashir's 1-year-old daughter was killed in a car bomb attack in 1980, initially supposed to target him.
During a huge Gathering at the Forum de Beirut on Sunday , Amine Gemayel said:
-"We have worked to defend the 10,452 square meters, but every party has worked to build a state for himself within the Lebanese state."
-"We have a thousand way to divide the country but the only way to unify the country is loyally to the nation"
" Loyalty means detaching from foreign powers... Hezbollah and Palestinians’ arms as well as those of the extremist groups are required to be handed over to the army... Illegal arms are not only used internally for political reasons but for economic motives.... What’s the use of looking into a defense strategy that will not lead to a radical solution . ..I call on the various Lebanese sides - allies and foes - to find a settlement to our differences through constitutional means.... Civilized diversity is a source of Lebanon’s pride"
Gemayel concluded by saying : "We will not change our alliances nor we will transform the Cedar Revolution into an uprising against the cedars. We have adopted the concepts of March 14 since the year 1936."
