Walid Jumblatt's PSP on Friday called for interrogating the former president in connection with the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri.
In a statement issued on Friday, the PSP said that Lahoud’s position explained “his daily staunch defense of the four generals who were his direct team because the international tribunal that would try suspects would be operational soon."
"That is why he defends the four generals because they were his team. Launching the tribunal contradicts expectations that had been made by Lahoud, and his supporters," the PSP statement said.
After the assassination of Prime Minister Rafik Al Hariri in 2005, a Lebanese magistrate issued arrest warrants against the four generals in question, accusing them of involvement in the murder.
The PSP said that the commencement of the tribunal contradicted “all the expectations of Lahoud and his accomplices and what happens today is raising the level of tension before the truth is revealed eventually.”
