An Nahar daily said Monday that the Progressive Socialist Party leader's visit to Washington is the first by a Lebanese politician since Barack Obama's election as U.S. president.

Jumblatt will be accompanied by his wife Noura and MP Marwan Hamadeh.

The Progressive Socialist Party leader will meet with Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, Eric Edelman, the policy chief for Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch and and some of the advisers of the new elected President Barack Obama.

MP Hamadeh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Monday, in a phone call from Washington, that the United States was unlikely to change its policy toward Lebanon after the new presidential elections because it was determined to support Lebanese sovereignty.

He also said that MP Jumblatt will inform his allies about the results of his visit after returning to Beirut.
