That said it is primordial to describe the events that led up to the conflict and the parties that pulled the strings to make it happen. Let us go back in time and seek the facts: the United States have been pushing for a missile defense system that would be installed throughout parts of Europe insuring US supremacy over the region and the defense of US allies and the interests of the White House. Russia, on the other hand, a growing, once again to be superpower and number one exporter of natural gas opposes the plan due to obvious reasons, particularly US dominance in the region. Moreover it is important to mention that Georgia has undertaken becoming a member of NATO further cementing its alliance to the West and continuing to pose a threat to Russia’s efforts of sabotaging the missile defense system and also promoting other former Soviet countries such as the Czech Republic to do the same.
From all the preceding and considering the devastating Russian bombardments that led to the present cease fire, it is obvious that what was at stake for Russia was much more important than the independence of South Ossetia and the halting of the systematic genocide that Georgian was taking part of against the Ossetians. Russia had to crush the threat that loomed, it had to uproot American policy in Georgia and insure that the other former counties of the Soviet Union would be intimidated enough to never lift a finger against the will of mother Russia. And so we saw the destruction of large parts of Georgia and the military might of the Russians prevail against their outnumbered opponents.
What is intriguing is that once again the US stood idle while one of its allies was ripped to pieces by another nation. Doesn’t this sound familiar? It should, a few months ago; the 14th of March Movement often rattled the sword, threatening that America would intervene if Hizbollah was to cause trouble in Lebanon or try to overthrow the Lebanese government. Well, the US never came to the rescue when Hizbollah and their allies pounded pro-government parties in Beirut, as they never came to the rescue when Russia pounded Georgian Forces in South Ossetia.
It is however of importance to mention that Secretary Rice called on Russian Forces to immediately stop their progression into Georgia. How hypocritical coming from a country that traveled across the World to invade another sovereign Nation and propagate the Neoconservative agenda throughout the Middle East. With scores of dead civilians and a devastated Iraq, with a growing insurgence and terrorism becoming as popular as YouTube videos of George Bush’s illiteracy, how can the US regain it's composure?
Particularly with the possibility of a third term for Bush vis-a-vis Presidential hopeful John McCain, whose decisions to support the invasion of Iraq through one side of his mouth, and pay lip service to the embattled nation of Georgia through the other, demonstrate his ability to carry the baton of of deception craftily mastered by the Bush administration.
That leads me to my final question: Who is to blame for the uprising of extremist Iran? The same Bush administration who overthrew the Iraqi government and destabilized the whole region in the hope of giving non-bid contracts to greedy companies like Halliburton and other corporate giants sponsoring their political interests. The empowerment of Iran is directly attributed to the strengthening of Hizballah, and the endless violence they continue to bring to the Lebanese people who only want peace. Whether by intention or by consequence, the massive blunders of Bush and his allies over the past eight years have benefited the Iranian regime and the Hizballah militia exponentially more than the American people or the US allies.
