Rejoice, for what could be if we decided to unite and overcome foreign meddling. Rejoice for the hope that resides within every man, woman and child that we are to meet a new Lebanon, where the people are the masters and the politicians their servants.
Fellow Lebanese, abroad or at home, let us take a moment from our daily life to embrace one and other and take note of our striving culture. Sure, we have much to reprehend ourselves about, but our will to live has proven strong. I wrote months ago, better to die on your feet, then to live on your knees. Well today we live, we have survived war, famine, political divide, assassination, civil strife and we stood never kneeling.
Beirut is booming, the music can be heard to the mountains, tourists from across fill the streets to enjoy our fervent, inspiring culture and our incredible scenery. Speaking of the mountains, one struggles to find a parking spot or to simply maneuver through the outrageous extravagance of downtown Aley, the very place where just months ago war drums raged.
I believe the Lebanese people deserve to live; we deserve a home we can visit more than once every few years fearing war. We deserve to prosper in our own country and relinquish the adjective that is used to describe us: foreigners; let that word never describe us again. Let our enemies fear our union, our will to stand together and let us forget the lines of sectarian divide and always put defending our Republic's sovereignty first.
As of today, we have a chance to make a difference; the new generation has a chance of making Lebanon the bastion of Democracy and free will. All this by simply accepting each other. Accepting that we belong to one county, that we abide by that country and to put aside militant ideologies and embrace our cultural ideologies. Let us not just be PSP, LF, SNNP or Hezbollah partisans, let us be partisans of greater Lebanon. Let every Lebanese abroad know that there will come a day, in their life span, when we can come back home, not fearing oppression, poverty, or segregation. Our politicians matured by uniting and representing what is greater than all us, Lebanon.
Congratulations Lebanon, let's hope the leaders of our nation will remember that WE elected them.
