“We still have time until next spring. This period can be a political and economic spring in Lebanon if we know how to use it and invest it,” Berri told the paper, adding, “The Lebanese spring can become permanent.”

Berri said he expects that the parliamentary session to give its vote of confidence to the newly-formed cabinet . He expect the session to be held next week if the discussions over the ministerial statement keep up at their current pace.

He also said he might submit to a vote the bill suggested by MP Amin Sherry and the Change and Reform bloc to adopt a Qaza-based ( county) electoral law in the first parliamentary session held after the vote of confidence.

Berri also said that the Administration and Justice parliamentary committee should speed up its work on the amendments that will become an integral part of the new electoral law.

The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported that Berri said, “If the Future Movement decides to catch up with Arabism, nationalism and the national trends, it will see major progress.”

“The Future Movement has received many blows, the biggest of which was the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri,” Berri said, noting that because the movement is new, it couldn’t organize itself well.

Berri said that the regional and international mood seems to favor the Lebanese consensus, adding that Prime Minister Fouad Siniora is a technocrat par excellence.
