According to the army command a man was killed and two others were wounded when a car refused to stop at an army checkpoint in Bab al-Tabbaneh district of Tripoli .

The army command reported that soldiers opened fire after the driver refused to stop.

In another incident Four soldiers were wounded, one seriously, during exchange of gun-fire between fighters from Bab al-Tabbaneh and the army

The district of Bab al-Tebbaneh a largely Sunni area and its residents support parliament majority leader MP Saad Hariri and Jabal Mohsen, a largely Alawite area( like the Syrian regime) and its residents support the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah -led opposition. Fighting and grenade blasts have been taking place between these 2 areas since June . Over 14 people have since been killed and over 100 people wounded

The army had stepped up its security measures and was on high alert after a grenade explosion in Bab al-Tabbaneh yesterday.

Last week the army moved in to take care of security

Former Minsiter Fatfat , a member of the March 14 majority alliance is not too impressed with the army and security forces performance in the north of Lebanon: He said today: The Lebanese security forces has not proven itself in the north of Lebanon and if it fails there , it won't be able to succeed anywhere else, since no place else can provide it with such a political and security cover
