"This increase in subsidy came after deliberation with the Union of Bakeries in relation to the high prices of fuel and the total cost of producing bread," the ministry said.

The ministry released a statement on Thursday in which it said it would re-calculate the price of subsidized flour at the end of each month, based on fluctuations in fuel prices, to preserve the current weight and price of a pack of bread.

The statement emphasizing that the sale price of bread would remain 1500 LL ( $1.00) . for a pack of bread weighing 1250 grams ( 44 OZ) .

The Ministry of Economy also emphasized the need for bakers to refrain from taking advantage of the subsidized flour prices.

Head of the Union of Bakeries Kazem Ibrahim announced Thursday evening that the price of a pack of bread will return to 1500 LL as of Friday morning.
