The Alseyassah sources also revealed that over fifteen Syrian supervising officers of various ranks were directly Leading the battles.

The sources also pointed out that these Syrian officers are awaiting instructions to transfer to Akkar region, near the borders with Syria as another battle is planned for that area, which is a stronghold of the Future movement (al Mustaqbal) and other March 14 allies members. The nearby areas which are inhabited by Alawites ( same sect as that of the Syrian leader Bashar al Assad ) have been threatening the pro-government strongholds with imminent attacks .

The Hezbollah-led opposition has been targeting the strongholds of March 14 alliances. It started with the seizure of west Beirut in early May, followed by the attacks against the Druze strongholds of Mt Lebanon, followed by the attacks in the Beqaa region, before moving the battle to Tripoli.

The attacks against the predominantly Sunni regions by predominantly Shiites / Alawites has taken a sectarian color and prompted some ultra conservative Sunni groups like the Salafis to threaten the Alawites of deportation to Syria.

The Alseyassah sources claimed that the clashes in Tripoli were a message from Syria to Saudi Arabia and March 14 alliance " that it still has influence in Lebanon"
