Here is an abstract of what Jumblatt said during the conference

The army will decide later on what to do regarding Brigadier General Wafik Shoukair; this is what Sleiman and the army have said. Regarding the Hezbollah network, which is said to touch on the functions of the resistance, the army will also decide whether it affects public interest or not.

I am not, as someone said, the Prime Minister. I am a participant in the government and in dialogue with my allies in March 14. (This was in reference to Hassan Nasrallah's accusation during his Thursday's famous speech which resulted in the escalation of the violence and the eventual occupation of western Beirut , by Hezbollah

The workers' strike took a different course when the Labor Union withdrew and the matter surpassed the needs of laborers... and culminated in the occupation of Beirut and, over the past two days, in rising tensions in the mountains and the North.

In cooperation with Sheikh Saad Hariri and his initiative, and Prime Minister Siniora, we have asked the army to give the government the possible solution to the two decisions that were the basis of the chaos in Beirut.

If we return to dialogue, we can begin to build what is called a defense strategy that meets the interests of the government and the resistance until, one day, and as all people hope, the decision of war and peace will be the government's. I say one day, not today or tomorrow.

After the massacre in Tarik al-Jadeedeh... I hope we stand together to stop the unrest and overcome our wounds, and turn to the judicial system. ( several people were killed and more were wounded when the funeral procession for a Muslim Sunni Lebanese was subjected to gunfire early Saturday )

When some were saying that I abandoned Beirut, no, I never abandoned Beirut.

March 14 never decided to use weapons. We began a peaceful, democratic path on March 14, 2005 and succeeded. We never thought of using militias.

There was a tragic incident in Ras al-Jabal, which lived in peaceful coexistence among ourselves, Christians, Shiites , and Sunnis... three people were killed, and there is one lost body which we hope security forces will find.

There is information that the bodies were disfigured. If this is true, this is shameful. We turn to the military and forensics, to whoever Speaker Berri and the resistance trust, to help avoid unrest. As we avoided sedition in Beirut, we want to avoid unrest in the mountains.

To the army and citizens, I say the mountains are everyone's. The army protects the mountains, Beirut and the whole country. The army decides what to do.

I have cooperated with Mir Talal Arslan, who is close to the opposition , to avoid sedition.

Hezbollah should not have any delusions that it is under attack. If it wants to verify, it is welcome to come inspect the mountains.

I cooperate with what the cabinet will decide, and what Sheikh Saad Hariri will decide, on the two infamous decisions to protect the nation and the military.

One day, everyone will understand that only the state can protect everyone... Let what happened be a lesson to everyone.

I say before everyone that I will not run away from what has happened, and I hand the issue of the bodies and the missing person over to the military court.

The army will take over the administrative issue of the airport, for it is our right to know that the airport is safe. Regarding the network, as I said, I do not think that either the government or March 14 wants to encroach on the safety of the resistance. We are aware of the grave danger of Israel... but we do not want this network to exist at the expense of public interest and the government.

The stepping down of the government is not humiliating if it is an issue of peace... We are trying to, slowly but surely, build the state of Lebanon... We do not want Hezbollah to feel that we are conspiring against them with the Israelis in 2006... and we will not let them think that we are today conspiring with anyone else.

Security is a joint concern; we want to be sure that the network and the cameras are not exposing us to any dangers either. ( in reference to the Hezbollah cameras that were caught spying on runway no. 17 which is used for high profile foreign visitors who use private jets and key Lebanese politicians
