Geagea, during a press conference said the clearest evidence of Hezbollah's intentions, is what they did in Beirut

Geagea who is attending the Doha dialogue talks as a key leader of the March 14 alliance was referring to the Hezbollah invasion of Beirut and Mt Lebanon early May which was described by observers as a "coup against the state"

Geagea said "situation is difficult during the Doha talks because the problems we have are fundamental and unfortunately some people are trying to link these problems to a parliamentary seat here and another there." This was in reference to the discussions of the electoral law and Aoun's objection to the Arab proposal on the electoral distribution of Beirut region"

Geagea added : We did not come to Qatar to make concessions but because of the security situation in Lebanon which must be solved

Geagea went on to say: : The basic problem is the subject of disarmament and the Arab Committee saw the problem but the other team is trying to evade it. What happened in the seventh and eighth of May is unacceptable , we were in a state and awakened to find ourselves in a jungle.

Again Geagea was alluding to the Hezbollah coup in when it pointed its so called resistance weapons at the Lebanese people . Over 81 people were killed and 200 were wounded

Arab Peacekeepers and Hezbollah arms

Geagea reiterated his call for an Arab peacekeeping forces "to be stationed in Beirut and which should be composed of troops from neutral Arab countries that do not have any interests in the political situation of Lebanon, such as Algeria, the UAE and Morocco" he said

Geagea explained that the objective of having this peacekeeping forces is for " reassuring the citizens in Beirut and the mountains of their safety"

Geagea said : There is a serious attempt by Hezbollah to control the power in Lebanon and the clearest evidence is what happened in Beirut during the month of May 2008"

Geagea said he is hopeful of an agreement in Doha , before he returns tomorrow to Lebanon. But he added " We are going to insist on resolving the issue of the Hezbollah weapons . We will no longer accept verbal assurance"

Geagea also expressed his dissatisfaction with the role the army played during the Hezbollah coup

" The Army Command's attitude during recent clashes is unacceptable " Geagea said.
Geagea said "the Army Should prevent any side from using weapons to attack another side"

Taif accord and the Christian community

Geagea warned against any attempts to amend or change the Taif ( accord) Agreement . He said " any group that will raise this issue will be playing with fire and the unity of Lebanon". This was in reference to General Aoun and the Iranian and Syrian backed Hezbollah-led opposition who have raised the issue on several occasions

Geagea also warned against any similar attacks against the Christian community " All the Christian community will all rise as one unified force to defend itself " he said . Geagea was referring to the Hezbollah militia attacks against the Sunnis in Beirut and the Druze in Mt Lebanon

Geagea thanked the government of Qatar for its constructive role in ending the Lebanese crises" Qatar acted objectively ...and Qatar did not try to profit at the expense of Saudi Arabia" he said
