michel-aoun - hezbollah flag.jpgAoun (pictured in front of Hezbollah's flag) described the violence and riots as politically motivated and not a Sunnite Shiite clash, "This is not a sectarian dispute, it is political," Aoun said.

Aoun praised the role of the army, and said "The army has been playing a proper role and should intervene in the event the fight is one sided."

Aoun defended Hezbollah and placed the entire blame on the government, urging them to surrender to Hezbollah's demands by revoking prior decisions.

Aoun has burned many bridges with the parliament majority in Lebanon, and for this reason not many will buy his call for negotiations, since the majority blames the problems in Lebanon to his alliance with Hezbollah and consider him a party to the conflict.

Aoun was appointed by the Hezbollah-led opposition to negotiate on their behalf an end to the presidential crises in Lebanon but failed in achieving any results.

On the other hand Progressive socialist Party (PSP) leader MP Walid Jumblatt called Hezbollah leader's comments "silly". He said Hezbollah made a big deal over the government decision. He added, "I didn't know General Shuqair is so important to disrupt the lives of the Lebanese and destroy the country."

Jumblatt added: "Lebanon is much more important than my party or Hezbollah."

Shuqair was accused of collaborating with Hezbollah in spying on the Beirut airport, and for this reason the Lebanese cabinet decided to fire him.

Jumblatt, during an interview on LBC, decried Nasrallah's speech and said, "I deeply regret that he went down to that level."

In a related development 2 people were reported killed in the Ras el Nabaa area. Hezbollah used its rockets in its fight against the supporters of Hariri.
