The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a Fatah squad captured Hussam Maarouf before dawn Friday, which led to a clash with his partisans of the so-called Jund al-Sham gang, a Syria based militant organization
The 90-minute clash with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers subsided after a joint force from Palestinian factions deployed across Ein al-Hilweh, the source said.
The security source said Maarouf is wanted by the Lebanese judiciary on charges of committing scores of crimes and offences.
He is also suspected of maintaining links with the Fatah al-Islam terrorist network, which fought fierce clashes against the Lebanese Army in the northern Nahr al-Bared camp last summer.
The confrontation claimed more than 400 lives, including 168 Lebanese soldiers.
