Lebanon is scheduled to have a presidential election on Tuesday March 11. This was the 15th postponement . Syria and its allies , the Hezbollah-led opposition have been accused by the ruling majority of blocking the election of army General Michel Suleiman as the president .

Moussa traveled to Damascus last week and reports circulated following his trip that Assad promised to cooperate over the elections of the new president. This new revelation by the Syrian source is another proof that Syria is intent on blocking the election of Suleiman

Lebanon has been without a president since November 23, 2007 when former president Emil Lahoud ended his term and Siniora has assumed the presidential powers in accordance with the constitution.

Lebanon's Iranian and Syrian backed opposition has refused to elect Army chief General Michel Suleiman as president unless their basket of demands is agreed to by the ruling majority. The basket includes a government of national unity in which the opposition will have a veto power, approval of all the government top appointments and holding parliamentary elections based on 1960 electoral law.

Most politicians are predicting a 16th postponement on or before March 11.
