Every time Moussa returns to Lebanon hope builds up , the Lebanese get excited , but by the time he leaves they get discouraged and lose hope.
Moussa arrived today in Beirut after a 2 day delay. Immediately upon arrival he went straight to Ain el Tineh to meet with Lebanon’s parliament speaker MP Nabih Berri .
Moussa left Berri without saying anything to reporters, a bad signal for ending the crises in Lebanon.
Moussa then visits Qoreitem to meet with Lebanon’s parliament majority leader MP Saad Hariri , in the presence of former president Amin Gemayel, former MP Dr. Ghattas Khoury , his assistance Hisham Youssef and deputy speaker Farid Makari.
Following the meeting Hariri said he is committed to the Arab initiative as it was presented and is willing to listen to other ideas to end the crises .
Moussa then left Hariri to meet with Lebanon’s prime minister Fouad Siniora at the government Saraya palace where they are still meeting.
Prior to leaving Cairo Moussa, said his hope remains that progress can be made in his efforts to solve the Lebanese crisis and the completion of the presidential elections process.
In a statement to the press he said "I could not leave Lebanon’s crises unresolved so I must continue to work hard ," . He pointed out that the success of his mission in Lebanon would contribute greatly to creating the necessary ambience for the success of the coming Arab summit in Damascus , expressing the hope of the participation of the President of Lebanon at this summit.
Moussa is expected to put together another quartet meeting between the opposition and the ruling majority .
What most Lebanese are afraid of is that Moussa’s visits have become such a boring routine that there is no sense of urgency to resolve any issues before he packs his bags and leaves again.
Lebanon has been without a president for 3 months and many worry that the February 26 date set for the presidential elections will be extended for the 15th time if Moussa fails again in his mission. One political observer, who did not want us to disclose his identity told Ya Libnan: "Reading into the gestures of Berri as he shakes hands with Moussa you can guess the outcome ".
Readers are welcome to comment on the outcome !!
