It said the decision was made following an inquiry from The Media Line news agency.

THAICOM's spokesperson Piyanuch Sujpluem said the satellite management was initially unaware of "al-Manar's connection to the Lebanese terror organization Hezbollah."

Sujpluem said that less than 24 hours after The Media Line approached THAICOM asking if it was "aware of al-Manar's terrorist propaganda, the satellite decided to cease airing the station."

The website said that despite several attempts by The Media Line to obtain an official response from al-Manar TV, the station's spokesman Ibrahim Farahat failed to respond by time of publication.

However, it quoted a source at al-Manar as saying that the channel was considering how to react.

"I think they will decide not to comment on the issue," the website quoted the source as saying.

Hours before the Thai satellite ended al-Manar's broadcasts, Sujpluem told The Media Line its decision to transmit Al-Manar was "purely a business decision, which had nothing to do with politics."

The website said that since the U.S. added al-Manar to its Terrorist Exclusion List, the European satellites Hispasat and Eutelsat have stopped carrying the station's broadcasts.
