The Lebanese Internal Security Forces ( LISF) declared emergency, warning motorists against driving on mountainous roads due to thick fog, snow and ice. The following roads are closed because of the snow storm according to the LISF
:
Hamana - Mudeiraj, Dahr al-Baydar, Tarsheesh - Kafr Silwan, Tarsheesh - Zahle, Qub Elias- Masharif, Eyoun Suleiman - Hadath Baalbek - Sannin , Zahle, Deir el Ahma , Ainata - el Arz , Bsharri, Tannourin, Ashtout - Miroba, Douma - Bishalli , Dhuhur al-Shouweir, Biskinta, Aqoura, Tarzia, Fatka, el Beera - Qubbiat, Bint Jbeil - Tibnin, Marjayoun - Hasbiya, Jiba’a
The snow storm caused widespread power outages and damaged crops and property. Trees were uprooted, electric and phone poles and billboards were damaged.
Schools and universities in Mount Lebanon, the Bekaa and some areas in the north had to close . The storm also led to heavy showers in the coastal areas of Lebanon which caused floods that cause further damage
The temperature in the mountains is ranging between 0 C( 32 F) and 8 C( 47F) .
The amount of rain during the past 2 days was 15 millimeters , which brings the total rainfall this year to 528 Millimeters (20.8 inches) , compared to 390 Millimeters ( 15.4 inches) this time last year .
The forecast says winds were blowing at a velocity of about 35 kilometers per hour( 22 Miles per hour ), with poor visibility in the mountains .
