Sahili made the remark in an interview with the state-run Tele Liban, excerpts of which were also distributed by the National News Agency (NNA).

He stressed that the Hizbullah-led opposition "will not leave the country in the hands of a side that monopolizes power and leads the country to the unknown."

He said that electing a president by simple majority "would be as if no election has taken place and the president will not leave the Baabda Palace in the hands of vacuum."

Lahoud, according to Sahili, "would take the proper decision on time. What is important is that we, the opposition, will not stand idly by if the majority rejected consensus" on a presidential candidate.
