The soldiers were on a routine training flight in the Bekaa Valley when the helicopter apparently hit a mountain top near the village of Niha.

According to the official Lebanese news agency, the crash was caused by technical failure. The weather in the area was clear.

Fire engines arrived at the scene to deal with the burning wreckage.

The Lebanese air force has 24 UH1 Helicopters and no jets.
