The Security Council, by its resolution 1636 (2005) of 31 October 2005, requested the United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission to report on the progress of its investigation of all aspects of the terrorist attack which took place on 14 February 2055 in Beirut that killed former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and others, including to help identify its perpetrators, sponsors, organisers and accomplices, by 15 December 2005.
The present report sets out progress with the main lines of enquiry of the investigations since the adoption of Council resolution 1636 ( 2005), its observations thereon and its conclusions and recommendations, for the consideration of the Security Council. It also identifies those matters on which further investigation may be necessary.
The report outlines progress with regard to the form and content of Syrian co-operation with the Commission.
The Commissioner sets out the next steps which are planned to be taken in the enquiry, as well as a number of conclusions and recommendations which reflect current progress in the investigation.
