All the opposition candidates spoke during this rally, in which all types of banners were waived and specially those of the Lebanese Forces. All the speakers called for release of Samir Geagea, from Jail.
Aoun joined Talal Arslan and Michel Murr, both staunch Syrian allies. Aoun defended his alliance with the pro-Syrian politicians, by accusing the opposition of leaving him with no other choice. The irony here is that Aoun tried to take credit for UN resolution 1559, which called on Syria to withdraw from Lebanon.
In an interview with Al Hayat newspaper, which was also reported by Voice of Lebanon, Aoun said that if the election results are not favorable he intends to form a shadow parliament. He also said that he feels unsafe and for this reason took special measure to safeguard his safety.
Aoun's comment to Al Hayat could indicate that he has come to realize that the battle in Mt. Lebanon may have become too tough to win. In today's rally in Jdeidah almost all the Christian heavyweights were there; Ex president Amine Gemayel, Dory Chamoun, Nassib Lahoud, Streada Geagea etc... Most observers agree that Hezbollah's decision to support the Anti Syrian opposition has tilted the balance in their favor.
General Aoun has also been attacking the opposition leader Walid Jumblatt daily. When asked to comment on these attacks, Jumblatt said: "FPM leader was free to do whatever he wants." Went on to say "Aoun is a military man; this is why he is attacking people in every direction."
