Based on the last vote count, the Jumblatt alliance has won this district. Our correspondent in Baabda reported that the Aoun representatives left Baabda where the votes were being counted and unofficially conceded defeat.
This was a sudden reversal of fortunes for the Aoun's list, since all night long they were ahead in the vote count at least in the case of 7 (out of 10) of their candidates.
While Aoun may have established himself as the undisputed future president of Lebanon, Jumblatt has also re-established himself as the undisputed leader of the Druze community and the anti-Syrian opposition leader. With his victory in Aley and the Chouf district, Jumblatt will be heading to the new parliament with a block of 18 to 20 members. Furthermore his victory will have a positive effect on his allies in Northern Lebanon's elections which will be held next Sunday.
