Iran’s Supreme Leader accused the United States on Wednesday of scaring businesses away from Tehran and undermining a deal to lift international sanctions.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told hundreds of workers that a global deal, signed between Iran and world powers, had lifted financial sanctions, but U.S. obstruction was stopping Iran getting the full economic fruits of the agreement.

“On paper the United States allows foreign banks to deal with Iran, but in practice they create Iranophobia so no one does business with Iran,” he said in quotes from the speech posted on his website.

Iran has repeatedly urged Washington to do more to remove obstacles to the banking sector, in the spirit of the July deal with the United States, the European Union, Russia and China to lift most sanctions on Iran in return for curbs on its nuclear programme.

But some U.S. sanctions remain, and U.S. banks remain prohibited from doing business with Iran directly or indirectly because Washington still accuses Tehran of supporting terrorism and human rights abuses.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in New York on Saturday that Washington was not trying to stop Iran dealing with banks outside the United States.

“There are now opportunities for foreign banks to do business with Iran … Unfortunately there seems to be some confusion among some foreign banks and we want to try and clarify that,” Kerry said.

  1. One has to give it to the turban-wearing piece of crap – he’s got tons of (in his case) very non-Jewish chutzpah.

If you didn’t get a good translation of ‘The Deal’, then it’s their fault too El Supremo?? Check the wording.

  3. Ahh , nobody trusting Iran is is mostly their own fault. They are next to impossible to make any concrete deal that they will not try to undo soon after it is made. Not to mention the nuke deal was only about nukes and associated material, they did not want to talk about any of their other projects like arming Hezbullah and spreading its terror cells in many other countries and their ICBM program are still subject to sanctions since Iran did not want to deal with those issues when the US put them on the table.

Khamenei has started to notice that the world is becoming aware of the Iranian’s current lradership’s true nature. It sure took a long time.

  5. I forgot to mention what a stupid looking hat he has, or is that a bad afro?

    “enduring American hostility toward Iran.”
He is so full of shiite.
Who took US sailors at gun point recently when they accidentally sailed into Iranian water and offered no resistance. Who did live-fire exercises dangerously close to US war ships recently, who takes every opportunity to taunt and insult the US (and many others) in the Persian Gulf and Iraq (and elsewhere). Who likes to trash foreign embassies in their own country ( many over the years)? Who dedicates a special day to “death to amerika” and encourages such regularly?

Gee, I wander why nobody likes Iran?
