Islamic State chief issues call to arms, says Islam is a “religion of war”

Share:

baghdadiAbu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), appeared to issue a defiant call to arms on Thursday in what would be the jihadist leader’s first audio recording in six months.

“There is no excuse for any Muslim who is capable of [emigrating] to the Islamic State, or capable of carrying a weapon where he is,” the voice, which cannot be verified as Baghdadi’s, said.

Calling Islam a “religion of war”, the voice describes the jihadist path as “obligatory”.

The message seemed intended as a rebuttal to media reports claiming that Baghdadi had been so badly injured in a coalition airstrike that he might never command Isil again.

It appeared to be a recent recording, referencing Isil’s presence in the oil-rich Kirkuk province, as well as the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against rebel forces in Yemen.

The message was accompanied by translations in English, French, German, Russian and Turkish, a move apparently intended to guarantee maximum exposure.

Baghdadi has been a towering figure in the rise of Isil, and its al-Qaeda affiliated predecessor. It was reported last month that he had suffered spinal injuries in a March 18 airstrike, and that he was being treated by two ideologically sympathetic doctors who travel to his hideout from the group’s stronghold in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

Operational control of Isil has reportedly been passed to Abu Alaa al-Afri, a physics professor and longtime senior official, who had been appointed deputy leader when his predecessor was killed by another air strike late last year.

Although Iraqi authorities claimed on Wednesday that Afri had been hit by a coalition airstrike, the Pentagon has denied any knowledge of the attack.

The last known written communique bearing Baghdadi’s name was released in mid-April. It called on jihadists to send reinforcements to fighting fronts in the Iraqi provinces of Anbar and Salahedin. The terror group’s inner workings are opaque, and it is not known which Isil official was responsible for the message.

Isil swept across large swathes of Iraq and Syria last year, declaring the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.

Isil jihadists have pursued a policy of religious cleansing in areas they have captured, threatening to kill those who do not forcibly convert to Islam.

Tens of thousands of jihadist sympathisers have already heeded calls to travel to the so-called Islamic State, among them a growing number of young British men and women.

      2. Is ISIS Iran’s Proxy to achieve Regional Hegemony and establish Wilayat Al-Faqih?

During the first days of ISIS’s formation in Iraq and Syria, many questions had been raised concerning the nature of this group. One of them is that how a small group like it could occupy numerous parts of Iraq and Syria at a very short time and prepare itself to conquer Baghdad.

The actions of Takfiri forces called as “ISIS” over time showed that the purposes of this group did not include the formation of an Islamic government in Iraq and Levant, instead the tasks and missions of this group are to destroy Islamic cultures, to spread Islamophobia, to create hatred towards Islam and Muslims, to propagate false Islam, to instill fear in the hearts of non-Muslims, to confuse Muslims, to create chaos, to devastate whatever that represents the old history of Islam in the region, and ofcourse furthering Iran’s agendas and showcasing Shiite version of Islam to be the divine religion.

The majority of Sunnis originally thought that ISIS was an anti-Shiite group, but came to realize that it’s actually pro-Shiite and pro-Iran after their actions, atrocities against them, destroying Sunni’s history and whatever left by them in the region got unfolded in front of their eyes.
The damage of sanctuaries of Holy Messenger’s companions had supported this claim. But this portrait is not real and genuine. The Takfiri group not only destroyed minorities religious places but also damaged religious places of Sunnis such as Mosque of Umar bin al-Khattab which was built by Umar’s decree at the early period of Islam.

These actions show that the main purpose of this group is to destroy whatever left in Islam. Does ISIS try to improve Islamic principles and history or destroy whatever left in Islam? If we take into consideration their criminal behaviors toward Sunnis, Yazidis, Christians and Copts in Egypt, it will stand to reason that ISIS tries to highlight Iran and Shi’ism in the region as well as the world, representing it as the most divine religion in this era. On the other hand, how are they armed and equipped is of great importance. Which kind of group is able to control and direct their forces from Iranian borders to Mediterranean and African border?

The actions of this group have indicated that they are on a mission which follows the Iran’s dreams and aspirations. Iran’s dream is to control the whole Middle East, establish its long cherished dream of a Persian empire and Shiite crescent.

It is obvious that Islamic countries should be cautious that ISIS, as a proxy of Iran, intends to destroy and devastate Islam as well as Islamic countries.

“ISIS: Iran’s Instrument for Regional Hegemony.”

A Middle East map whose origins can be found in the secret Sykes Picot agreement of 1915 reflected in the Post World War I Mandates of the League of Nations dividing up the former Ottoman Empire awarded the French and British at the San Remo Conference in 1920. The Iraq that arose from the British Mandate was an amalgamation of former Ottoman Empire vilayets encompassing restive Kurds, Sunnis and Shia and minority Assyrian Chaldean Christians, Turkmen and Jews. The latter were driven out after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.

ISIS is really a creation of the Syrian Mukhabarat (Intelligence) and Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence with the dual purposes of defeating the rebel opposition in Syria and forcing the breakup of Iraq. The Key points are:

        * Immediately after ISIS emerged in Syria, sources in the Syrian opposition said, “We are familiar with the commanders of ISIS. Once they belonged to Assad’s intelligence, and now they are operating on his behalf under the name of ISIS.”

Why would Shiite Iran support a Sunni jihadist organization like ISIS? Iran wants to be certain that a strong Iraqi state does not emerge again along its western border.
The notion that Shiite Iran would help Sunni jihadists was not farfetched, even if it seemed to defy the conventional wisdom in Western capitals.
It is unreasonable to expect Iran to fight ISIS. If Iran does so, it would be turning against a movement that has been a useful surrogate for Tehran’s interests.
Thus, to replace Iraq, Iran would use ISIS to forge a new alignment and map. There would be three sectarian entities, Kurdistan, a southern Shia satrapy of Iran encompassing the holy sites of Karbala and Najif, Baghdad and Basra, as well as a rump Sunni state comprised of the central and western provinces. Inbari’s analysis may explain why the Obama Administration has temporized about committing military assets in the Gulf region in support of the faltering Maliki regime in Baghdad. Moreover, the Administration does not wish to upset its outreach to Iran, especially with regard to the current round of nuclear discussions, while seemingly rejected the Islamic regime’s offer to assist in quelling the turmoil caused by the ISIS blitzkrieg in Iraq.

Confirmation in the upending of the official Al Qaeda opposition in Syria, the Al Nusrah Front, and the ISIS siege in Deir al Zour that appears directed at destroying the Free Syrian Army and Islamic Front rebel opposition to the Assad regime. Similar views of prominent Gulf region media analysts corroborating his thesis. Further, the existence of a cache of intelligence on the leaders of ISIS found in digital memory sticks obtained by Iraqi intelligence during the battle for Mosul in northern Iraq.

ISIS’s proposition would fit the Twelver Shia conception of creating turmoil to bring about the return of moribund twelfth Imam to lead the conquest of the Dar al Harb under the Islamic regime’s hegemony ruled under Sharia, Islamic law. Hence the rise of a Caliphate under the ISIS banner bestride Syria and current day Iraq would fit the Shia theology.

The fact that Sunni supremacist ISIS is leading the charge for creation of a Caliphate under Sharia in the Middle East, is entirely consistent with Iran’s behavior in the run up to 9/11. Iranian Intelligence with the aid of the late Hezbollah terrorist mastermind Imad Mughniyeh facilitated the training and transportation of the 19 Egyptian, Saudi and Yemeni perpetrators of 9/11 Islamic terror attack in lower Manhattan, Southwestern Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon in northern Virginia,. The evidence of that was revealed in the New York Federal District Court “9/11 Iran Links Case”.

Ken Timmerman, Dark Forces: The Truth About What Happened in Benghazi:

The group that took credit for the Benghazi attack, Ansar al Sharia, was trained and equipped by the Quds Force.
Both the CIA and US Delta and Special Operations Forces in Tripoli were actively monitoring Iranian operations in Benghazi, and warned their chain of command- including the late US Ambassador Stevens- that the Iranian were preparing a terrorist attack on the U.S. Compound in Benghazi.
Timmerman further notes that the Obama Administration supplied weapons to fight Qaddafi in Libya and Assad in Syria knowing that many rebel leaders were Al Qaeda operatives. Moreover that Qatar was deeply involved both funding and transporting these weapons and the diffusion of MANPADS throughout North Africa, the Middle East and even Afghanistan.

Timmerman, in an email to this writer, commented that he found “curious” the timing this week of the seizure of Ahmed Abu Khattala on the streets in Benghazi, Libya by US special forces with the aid of the FBI. Khatltala was a leader of Ansar al Shariah attack on the Benghazi Legation on 9/11/12. He hid in plain sight for past nearly two years, as Timmerman notes in his new book. He even gave interviews to the media. Reports in the media tells of his telling the history of the terrorist group while slow steaming on the USS New York towards the US for possible detention and prosecution following his interrogation. The irony is that the US navy vessel was built from the debris of the twin towers of the World Trade Center destroyed on 9/11 that Iran facilitated.

        Assad Regime-ISIS non-confrontation, protection & assistance:

        Non-confrontation:

The ISIS headquarters in Raqqa are distinctive and famous buildings (the governorate building and Armenian Catholic Church). When the regime shells the city, the aircraft fly down very low to target FSA held areas, however they never bomb the ISIS HQ or target areas under its control.i

This is also the case for ISIS HQ in Jarablus on the Syrian – Turkish borders and the HQ in Al-Danna (Idleb)
In turn, ISIS has never attacked Jisr Al Shughour, a regime-controlled area of strategic value in Idlib or the regime-controlled areas of Dier Ezzor or Aleppo City. A US official has recently testified to this.ii

During the battle between ISIS & FSA in the northern suburbs of Homs (January 10th 2014), regime aircraft were heavily shelling the FSA, avoiding ISIS, which assisted them to move forward in battle.
During the last battle between the Islamic Front and ISIS when ISIS was defeated in Aleppo, two days prior to this a convoy lead by an ISIS military leader, Emir Omar Shishani, drove (January 2014) from Raqqa to Aleppo, there are many eye- witness accounts saying this convoy was protected by regime warplanes. In contrast, the next day, another convoy from Liwa Al Tawhid drove a similar route north and was heavily bombarded by the regime planes.iii

As recently revealed in westerns media, ISIS and Jabhat al Nusra is selling fuel to the Assad Government in return for electricity.iv

ISIS upholds a systematic policy of assassinating the strongest and most highly respected FSA commanders, such as Abu Rayan, responsible Tal Abyad border checkpoint who was tortured and killed by ISIS, Abu Basir in the coastal front- Latakia suburbs, who was a highly prominent officer in the FSA.v

        ISIS-regime fusion:

Current emirs in ISIS were serving officers with the regime. E.g. Muhanat Juneidi was serving with the regime in Dier Ezzor during the Iraq war where he was responsible for the section following and investigating those who went to fight in Iraq and returned. He is an Alawite and until recently was an Emir with ISIS in Idlib suburbs where he was seen wearing the Afghani dawb, with a long beard. He was responsible for security issues inside ISIS in this area before FSA defeated ISIS and drove them out of Idlib (January 9th 2014). Similarly, Abu Anas al-Iraqi leads an al-Qaeda brigade in the province of Raqqa: “Abu Anas is financed directly by the regime, through Iran and Iraq”, confessed an ISIS detainee.vi

Accounts from FSA fighters of seeing the same faces fighting with the regime as fighting with ISIS.
Accounts from torture survivors – who were subject to the same torture techniques under the regime as under ISIS. There are pictures and videos available demonstrating this. Similarly when ISIS commit massacres, they employ the same methodsas regime forces employ.
During military clashes between FSA and ISIS, ISIS ammunition cases have been recovered by the FSA. Empty cartridges arelabelled as having been manufactured in the Institute of Defence Factories, the regime Ministry of Defence factory or from Russia.

        Documents:

As the FSA have taken over ISIS areas, much evidence has been gathered and is being held with FSA brigades inside Syria. IDs of from Syrian intelligence agencies have been discovered in ISIS bases. Youtube videos, exhibit evidence which is currently held by the Jaish Al Mujahediin. It shows belongings found when ISIS bases were taken over by the FSA in Idlib. The evidence includes Iranian visas, Russian passports, Iranian simcards, photographs showing ISIS ‘emirs’ making fun of Arabs and posing with their scantily clad western unveiled girlfriends. Free Syrian Army uncovered in January the passport of Abu Hafs al Masri, senior commander of ISIS in the northern city of Jarablus, containing an Iranian visa stamp. vii

        Civilian Syrian testimony:

Masarat media and activist organization collecting these views showed that 70% of respondents believe that the Assad regime supports ISIS. The same study showed that 79% of respondents believe that ISIS has not played an effective role in opposing the Assad regime in their area. Social media sites of late, especially Twitter, have seen a marked increase in the discussion surrounding the relationship between Assad and ISIS, fuelled by material such as leaked Youtube videos of fighters affiliated with the Assad regime posing as ISIS fighters.viii

        Conclusions:

As the Assad regime tried to crush the revolution, conditions of turmoil and lawlessness allowed these groups to originally enter Syria as they snatched power within a vacuum. The Assad regime has been protecting, supporting and facilitating ISIS within Syria. Allowing this group to thrive is his ultimate protection from the international community who has been led to believe he is fighting terrorism in Syria. As ordinary Syrians would testify, Assad is the biggest force of terrorism inside Syria, not only through this partnership but through his systematic state policy of war crimes which continues to crush what started as a peaceful call for freedom.

We ask regional and international players: is it in your strategic interest to allow this regime to aid extremism, cause mass displacement & regional turmoil? The regime is allowing such groups to thrive on your borders whilst simultaneously perpetuating regional chaos by creating the greatest humanitarian crisis the world has seen this this century. It is time for a bolder policy to address this shared problem with final resolve.

        Remarks:

Ahmad Jarba, President of The National Coalition of the Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, “Connection and collusion between the regime and ISIS runs deep. When the world hears Assad’s empty talk of terrorism, they must think again and ask themselves, who in Syria is the true terrorist?”

FSA fighter from Homs, “It is so obvious to all of us on the ground. The West must see the extent of the deceit of this regime, it has no limits to the tricks it will play to save itself.”

Ahmet Davutoğlu, Turkish Foreign Minister, “There is a partnership between them [ISIS] and the regime”

Western Intelligence source, The Telegraph, “Assad’s vow to strike terrorism with an iron fist is nothing more than bare-faced hypocrisy… At the same time as peddling a triumphant narrative about the fight against terrorism, his regime has made deals to serve its own interests and ensure its survival.”ix

Great post , thank you. Their cunning strategy is falling in Syria. But in Iraq its working at this time. Assad brought those Khawarij in but the Syrian rebel are strong in countering both ISIS and Assad. If the Syrian resistance were weak then by now the regime would crush the resistance with the help of ISIS.
Now , if we look at Iraq where this strategy is working. ISIS was clearly brought in by Maliki. They invaded the sunni areas which were already lost by Maliki. Iraqi shias are trying to prove that they are too weak to face ISIS therefore they must bring Iranian shia militia. Surprisingly that Ya hussain Obama is supporting this. The sunni tribes are asking for weapon but Iraqi government is sending Shia militia instead. What ISIS will do is to open the gate for Iran. Now the Iraqi sunni tribes are facing a two front war. They are not as strong as the FSA.

Here in Syria you may observed the same strategy but it failed in many places. The recent such deception is happening in Tadmur/Palmyra where the Assad military simply withdrew just like Nuri Maliki did.

I am still confused about Nusrah but I am sure for one thing that sooner or later Nusra will turn against FSA. They did it in the past but it was few incident. In recent yarmouk camp attack where Nusrah was ineffective against ISIS when they attack the FSA group. The group Ahrar Al Sham has also some Khawarij element. The Obama and the Zionist Neocons are die hard supporter of Iran.
