One person was wounded in an explosion on a bus in the suburbs of Tel Aviv on Sunday, Israeli medical services said.

“At 14:30 we received a report on an explosion on an empty bus. Medical teams arrived to the scene and are treating one lightly wounded person,” medical officials said in a statement.

“During actions taken to take care of a suspicious object on a bus, in Bat Yam, an explosion took place,” police said in a statement earlier.

Police earlier said that all passengers were evacuated from the bus and no one was hurt.

A bomb expert was examining the bag, which a police spokesman said contained an explosive device, when the blast happened, Reuters reported.

Police told Reuters they suspected that Palestinian militants had planted the bomb.

Fifteen people were wounded in the last bus blast in Israel in November 2012, Reuters reported.
