Iranian Chief of Staff Gen. Seyed Hassan Firouzabadi said Saturday that Iran is prepared for a situation in which it would need to close the Strait of Hormuz, but would not do so unless the country’s interests were seriously at risk, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported.
He clarified that Tehran has a plan for closing the strait, just has it has various other military plans for different situations. He emphasized that Iran was acting rationally.

How can you compare Iran back then as oppose to today. Back then the whole middle east except for Syria were against Iran. Back then his arsenal wasn’t as strong as today. Back then Hezbollah wasn’t in place. Back then 2 major super powers weren’t backing them. Don’t under estimate Iran. The truth is if Israel or the US could have invaded they would have. However they know how powerful Iran really is. And it worries them.
