Charbel: Syrian refugees committing crimes in Lebanon

Share:

Lebanon Interior Minister Marwan Charbel told Al-Jadeed television on Friday that a number of Syrian refugees were committing robberies and muggings to provide for their livelihood.

“Most of the Syrian refugees cannot find jobs, so they try to provide for themselves in one form or another,” Charbel said

Tens of thousands of Syrians have fled the unrest in their country. The exact number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon is not known but estimates range anywhere between 24, 000 to 50,000. Many of the refugees have relatives in Lebanon and for this reason they do not register with the UN refugee agency UNHCR.
