Morocco’s Islamist party pledges to promote relations with the west

Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD) claimed victory on Saturday in a parliamentary election that should produce a stronger government after King Mohammed ceded some powers to prevent any spillover from Arab Spring uprisings.

The leader of the party Abdul Ilah Bin Kiran said Friday after his party’s victory in the elections that he is determined to “promote” relations with Western countries, which he urged not be concerned about the directions of the party that he leads

.

In response to a question about the possible concerns of the West because his party is Islamist , Ben Kiran said , “No need to fear, at the Justice and Development Party there is no room ever for surprises. We will strengthen relations with the West.”

“We do not need to reassure the West which is already assured. No worries.” He added
