Tripoli MP Ahmed Karami, who is a close ally of Najib Mikati has revealed to Kuwaiti al-Seyassah newspaper in remarks published on Sunday that he told the PM-designate that he should have priority in getting the Sunni cabinet seat over Faisal Karami .

Faisal Karami , son of former PM Omar Karami was nominated by Hezbollah as the sixth Sunni minister in the cabinet. Hezbollah is reportedly so determined to have Faisal Karami in the cabinet , it only submitted his name to Mikati as its representative in the cabinet

Mikati reportedly informed Hezbollah that the issue of the Karami family representation in the government should be settled either by solving the differences between Omar Karami and MP Ahmed Karami or by allowing the former prime minister to choose a representative from outside the family.

According to local reports Hezbollah is meddling in Mikati’s choice for a Sunni representative in the cabinet to embarrass him in his hometown and shatter his relations with his ally Ahmed Karami.

Ahmed Karami confirmed that the obstacles preventing the formation of Mikati’s cabinet were all local. “There is no foreign intervention … neither in names nor in portfolios.”

The Iranian and Syrian -backed Hezbollah brought down PM Saad Hariri’s government on January 12 over the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) imminent indictment which is widely expected to implicate Hezbollah members in the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri in 2005

Mikati was appointed in January as the PM designate with the backing of the Hezbollah March 8 alliance and MPs Walid Jumblatt and Mohammad Safadi . March 14 leaders have repeatedly said that intimidation from Hezbollah’s weapons helped secure the parliamentary majority for Mikati’s nomination.
