All the more reason Lebanon should be prepared for all possible scenarios. Diplomatic or armed struggles, Israel is always looking for a way to control Lebanon.

      Control Lebanon for what reason??

        In no particular order:

        – Fresh water reserves such as the Litani river which is can vital for agricultural irrigation.
        – The Levant gas find. A weak and fearful Lebanon allows Israel to exploit gas that falls within Lebanon’s offshore borders.
        – The threat of war drives away foreign investment, which in the long run weaken Lebanon’s strong banking sector. Israel then capitalizes on these “Lebanon bound” investments which in turn power its own banking sector and in the long run strengthen its economy.

Former Israeli prime miniester Ariel Sharon said that Israel must have an economy stronger than her neighbors. That’s just one way of doing it. He was also the one who said the Litani must one day be under Israeli control.

I also want to add that a subdued Lebanon paves the way for further mistreatment of Palestinians and land grab, because backlash from Israel’s borders won’t be a concearn. People can say Israel has no intention of harming Lebanon, but given its terrible history I would rather depend on a Lebanese initiative for defense than pray and hope Israel doesn’t invade.

Well that’s really anyone’s call. They say the first time they came in to push the PLO away in operation Litani. They also wanted to take the Litani in a buffer zone. In 1982 it was the same story, to crush the PLO and take a 40km buffer zone which would include the Litani. Once the PLO became a non factor in the fighting, Israel occupied much of the South with constant shelling of towns and villages that where nearby. Many and myself included believe the PLO was just used an excuse for Israel to expand its borders into Lebanon, install a Lebanese government that would make peace with Israel, and take the Litani river.

You are exactly right, and I am glad it came out from your mouth, they should’ve installed a government that would make peace with Israel, and may be sharing the water would have prevented many loses of lifes and the destructions of many Southern Lebanese Towns and the displacements of many its residents.’fighting in behalf of the Palestinians is a hopeless attempts that has brought nothing only missfortunaes and destruction to all Lebanon.
Since you care for Palestine that much and I am sure you are a Palestinian take that fight on your own risk,
Lebanon is not your batttle ground or your gate way to Palestine,
Lebanon paid it’s dues for your beloved Palestine, and the southern Lebanese already sacrificied enough for you.

Simply put it this way screw the Palestinians and screw the Israelis. Israel was always jealous of are country, they are known for bombing parts in our country that have nothing to do with the war, for ex. our agriculture just because we have higher sales than them, their filthy excuse is “Human Shield”! PLO is garbage tried to take Lebanon in replacement for their Palestine, they shouldnt complain for their lack of rights in Lebanon, they deserve lack of rights, we once gave them all the freedom they wanted and they gave our country a civil war in return. They’re lucky we still except them till this day. Lebanon was a playground for Israelis and Palestinians Screw both of them both made our country shittier.

Absolutely not. Why should we share our resources with Israel? And it’s a good thing we don’t have a peace treaty with them. I would much rather live in a Lebanon that does not have ties with such a devilish country. No, I’m not Palestinian. I’m as Lebanese as they come. I believe in human rights for all and even though the PLO caused us much trouble, we shouldn’t judge all Palestinian refugees as if they were PLO soldiers. I didn’t say I wanted war with Israel, all I call for is a solid defense strategy in the case of an attack on Lebanon.

Crossed,if you think not having a peace treaty with Israel is a good thing for Lebanon,I wonder what other solution you would suggest as an individual that may be or more likely it might bring peace to the whole region and specifically to Lebanon.I know it is a long shot by far.
I mainly believe there is no such a permanent peace that is enclosed to one country in the middle east without totally having the implementation of peace to the whole region in general.
We cannot change the past or what the nations of the Middle East had gone thru for many decades of wars and instability and still tackling it up till this moment, but we could indeed by using our resources change the outcome of the future which should secure peace and prosperity for many more generations to come.
          Nice chating with you.Peace.

ohliban75 The Israelis cannot be trusted period. I would never have peace treaty with them not until they compensate Lebanon over 100 billions dollars in damages plus pay residence fees for keeping Palestinians in our homeland. The Israelis want peace in order to keep their border safe, while spying on us and flooding our markets with their products and subject us to unfair economic injustice. I guess maybe you were not born then or do not remember when Amin Gemyal made a temp peace treaty with them they were just killing us with their products. Let’s face Israelis are greedy and they will kill you either way. So every time a PLO give them problem they shove them over our border. I am not saying Syria been an Angel, but Syria’s leadership changes so it changes policy. But with Israel its all or none. You want a peace with Israel let them pay us back for all the damages of war they have caused us. Otherwise no peace even if all arabs make peace with them i could careless.
