Kuwait will contribute 50 million Kuwaiti dinars ($177.2 million) to Libya’s rebel council, a rebel leader said on Sunday.

Mustafa Abdel Jalil (R) , head of the Libyan rebel national council, was speaking at a news conference in Kuwait.

Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday met with Jalil.

The meeting with Libya’s rebel Transitional National Council leader was also attended by several high-ranking officials, the official KUNA news agency reported, without elaborating details of the talks.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Salem Al-Sabah said earlier this month that the Gulf Arab emirate would follow France, Qatar and Italy to recognize the rebel group as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people. Reuters
