US says is not trying to undermine Syrian regime

The United States is not working to undermine the Syrian government but President Bashar al-Assad “needs to address the legitimate aspirations of his people,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Monday.

“No we are not working to undermine that government,” Toner said in response to a question at a media briefing, adding the U.S. government was working to promote democratic processes in Syria and elsewhere in the world.

“The Syrian government perceives this kind of assistance as a threat,” he said.

According to Monday reports , the U.S. State Department has secretly financed Syrian political opposition groups and related projects, including a satellite TV channel that beams anti-government programming into the country, according to previously undisclosed diplomatic cables.

  1. So what if the US is trying to undermine a dictatorship that has terrorized, manipulated, deceived, plundered, and killed so many of their own people, for 50 years. So what….I don’t mind my tax money being used to undermine Bashar and his boys…..let them all hang from the square in Homs…..First one on the list: Rustom Ghazali….then Shawkat, then Maher the Maniac, followed by Rami the Ripoff, etc, etc., one by one…..

Who cares about what the US thinks or says. While the US propounds democracy it has always supported these dictators behind the scene. People power will overthrow these stooges with or without US blessing.

While the US’s ultimate demise is on the brink due to its excessive spending and ever burgeoning debt. I see signs the Arab nation is rising to once again fill the vacuum that will be left behind by the Roman Empire of our day.
