Israeli airstrike on Gaza resumed, wounding four

Four Palestinians were injured when Israel resumed airstrike on eastern Gaza City Saturday, witnesses and medical sources said.

The sources told Xinhua that the four were injured when an Israeli war jet struck a group of people with a missile in the Zeitoon neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, adding that one of the wounded was in serious conditions.

Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman told Israel Radio that 30 homemade projectiles and rockets had been fired from the Gaza Strip and landed at southern Israeli towns and communities since early Saturday.

The death toll of Palestinians in the intensive airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Thursday afternoon have climbed to 17 people and 60 have been wounded.

Israel earlier announced that it had received a Hamas request through foreign mediators for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Taher al-Nouno, spokesman of the deposed Hamas government in Gaza, said in a press statement that many parties were proposing a mutual and synchronal ceasefire in the Gaza Strip with Israel.
